Description:
This regional event brings together statistics tutors and teachers in Crockett and Richmond and uses three separate breakout sessions to (1) discuss strategies that help mathematically unprepared students understand data and what they can learn from it, (2) develop strategies for integrating tutoring with teaching to support students academically in a way that is ethically consistent with the student code of conduct, and (3) draft a best practices document for the top ways for local schools and colleges to engage tutors to help engage statistics students. These strategies will be discussed within the context of the needs of the student body at Crockett’s John Swett High School and Contra Costa College in San Pablo and help participants bring a broader perspective to upcoming eCOTS sessions.
